State of Uramon

pocketlink here.

If you’ve been following along with the raw releases of Urban Legend Professor Uramon, you may know that it recently ended.

Tamura-sensei had been on the decline for a while. If you’d been keeping up with Uramon and felt that actual arcs were becoming more and more infrequent, that isn’t just you. We’ve been keeping a spreadsheet of all the chapter releases and their types, which looks like this.

At some point, Tamura-sensei announced that Uramon would be going biweekly rather than weekly, which made sense after it got to the point that there were way too many break and 4koma chapters for something to not be happening over on his side. When one of our members, who’d been keeping up with raw releases, told us that out of completely nowhere, Tamura-sensei had announced that 74 would be the penultimate chapter, we were all quite shocked. To say nothing of the content within the final arc itself.

We all understand that Tamura-sensei recently had a kid, so it makes sense that he would become a lot more busy. Nevertheless, this release schedule had all made us very disheartened. We wanted to continue working on Uramon, but it was incredibly hard to feel motivated without actual… new content. Our team in particular was excited for Uramon because Tamura-sensei was previously the artist for the Buddyfight manga, an interest many of our group members share. It’s depressing. We’re definitely depressed.

Despite this, we are not dropping Uramon. Now that it’s ended, hopefully that’ll put less pressure on us to keep up with the releases (even though we hadn’t really been doing that to begin with). Right now, we don’t want to leave people who enjoy our releases high and dry by dropping it without a word. That may change in the future, but for now, we want to keep going.

We’re still working on secret project and Kamizmode (I wanna have that done by the end of the year), so those take priority, but we’ll work on giving this little gem the quality work it deserves.

When I read that Uramon was abruptly ending, I swear I heard a big “KA-CHUNK” inside me as my heart shattered. The Otoribako arc had me excited, I thought Kyouza made a good foil for Uramon, and I looked forward to him returning in future chapters. That final arc was… well… unusually dark and bleak for the tone this series had set, and the final pages almost did an injustice to the fans by cramming in hints of more backstory we may have eventually seen. It’s so unfair for a series that had so much promise and had already garnered some ultra-devoted followers, I hope Mr. Tamura is doing alright. I missed this post in October because I hurt my neck around that time and couldn’t move, then suddenly it was the holidays. Thank you for your plans to finish out the series, I appreciate the work of your team. There’s some comfort in knowing I’m not the only fan who felt totally crestfallen at the news. Again, thank you ❤
